A falling star in the early morning,
A pipsqueak of dying light on a velvet sky,
Has a chip on his shoulder and dares me to knock it off.
"I double-dog dare you to make a wish," it challenges me.
I have wanted many things in my life,
And wanting left me wanting every time.
I've finally come to a place where I don't want anything
and/or need it,
And so I take a minute and look inside.
I search my better self and speak
To the same part I spoke to,
When I echoed words I heard in the Bible, saying,
"Teach me how to pray."
And this time I sigh deeply
And echo something different,
Quoting from the heart I whisper,
"Teach me to want again."
