It's much harder for me to crawl
Than it was then,
But maybe I still have the urge to move,
To scoot my butt across the floor
To chase you.

What is it that hooked my head
Into this game of cat and mouse,
Where you hide and I seek you?
Is it the impulsive arousal
I feel while I am catching you mid-squeak,
Or is it just the blessed warmth
Your close company brings
In the haste, after pouncing?

I dawdle now, fooling around,
Taking pains to taper the tussle measuredly,
To eek out every possible moment of blissful togetherness
While I have you, before you disappear again.

I'm driving around
Only making right turns.
There are all these lanes,
White lines, brown leaves
Blowing along a gray pavement grid.
The never ending roads are angled
And don't lead back where they came.

There's nobody coming.
I pull out again.
Another right turn,
Another slow lane,
Another side street,
Another strange angle,
The web is tangled.
I'm just looking for you.

Come and lie with me tonight,
In the velvet of the darkness,
In the blurring of the lines,
In the lap of luxury.
The clovered freshness of my skin
Will soothe your heart to come in
Out of the maelstrom.
The cadence of nature, rest and peace
Will bring your heart to rest again.
And when you smile to hear the birds sing,
The cooing of my love for you,
The taste of my kisses and my desire
To have you next to me,
Will move you fully as the moon
To enjoy your power growing,

And your love for me.

I've broken stride and broken ranks
And left the reservation
And I find a different complex cadence
Seducing me
There is a kind of a trail
There are few footprints
But I am happily led astray
Far away from the rut
The hut two three four
I can't stand it anymore
A different meter
A nature calling
A true love
A truer me.

When you tell me to hush,
What you're really telling me
Is that I'm the only thing that you can hear,
And you can't even concentrate
On what you think everyone should be concentrating on right now,
Because something about me
And what I'm saying and what I'm doing
Pulls your attention away so hard

So you attempt to shush me,

But you can't.

I think the moths are up tonight with me.
We're night bright-eyed and curious,
Drawn by strange lights
That may be the death of us,
But, they're so beautiful.

Now, as I flutter toward I find it hard
To soar up where the light is in the sky.
My wings are wet and heavy,
And I struggle not to fall.
Clumsy and encumbered---a corps perdu,
I find I'm head over heels
In love with you,
The flowers of the Casablanca Lily
That bloom at night to catch
The silly moths who try to fly blind
Into the blinding lights
Of early watch.

And this may be the death of us,
But you're so beautiful.

Weakened for the weekend,
It's not fine either way.
I'm searching for something so concrete
In an abstract painting.

And now the gallery is closing,
And this one work befuddles me.
I'm the face of understanding.
They set the alarm,
And turn the key
And leave me here
With my confusion,
My speechlessness.

And I feel like if I could only mutter
Something to myself,
Maybe the spell could be broken,
My spirit could interpret
The tongues of love and art.
