My dish soap powder had caked
Into an unpourable state
In the bottom of the box
And would not turn loose of itself,
And so I went out into the front yard
And found a stick,
And brought it in and poked around
In the dish soap box until
I had just the right amount
To put into the dishwasher.
And I'm tempted to think that I'm so smart,
And to be proud that I have not evolved
To some helpless state of humanity
That exists beyond all common sense,
But, truth be told I've learned
The art of using tools
From watching crows and squirrels,
And that's the only reason I know enough
To feed myself and keep my dishes clean.
