Narcissus happened on to a mirrored pool
And saw himself. So beautiful
Was he, he could not bare
To look upon anything less,
Anyone else.
But the Lady of the Shallots,
Also cursed,
To look into the mirror ever,
She never saw herself,
Only the future.
Her prophecies never failed.
And so it is today the same,
Most men look at themselves,
And tame their hair with combs,
And check between their teeth.
While many women gaze within,
And only see the shapes of things to come.
