It was a patriarchal system,
But it was fatherless.
There was no one to go ahead
Or make the way come true,
And so it fostered phobias
And glared,
Exposed insecurities
And laughed,
And mocked the ones that clung to it for hope.
Each one crushed and swept aside
Onto a great conveyor belt
Where the realization finally came,
In seeing the thing grow smaller and smaller:
What a tiny, dispensable, insignificant piece of it I had been!
