I always walked dutifully to the right
And took up as little space as possible,
Deferring to everyone along the way.
But today I just don't feel so little.
I'm taking my half out of the middle,
Zigzagging across both sides of the walk
To wherever the flowers are.

And if my goals don't seem lofty enough to you,
And if you scratch your head and wonder why,
Why ask? But maybe choose to wonder.
Let your mind wander,
And consider the ways of the butterfly.

The caterpillar eats the leaves
And saves the flowers for dessert,
After it's slipped into something
A bit more comfortable.
And so do I.
I save my pie for when I've put on wings.
