Everything was thrown up in the air.
Each item reached its individual pinnacle
Then paused,
And then began its own descent,
And all the construction at the university stopped,
As it seemed the sky was falling,
And the people wondered
If they should bother finishing off
Things that great committees
Had belabored to ordain.

And homebodies put their fingers to their chins,
Considered this a time to end
Meaningless husks of ritual and religion
Such as Sunday Football
And the Mathematition’s Annual Conference.
A year of Jubilee declared,
People everywhere have a chance to pause
And think, before gravity begins
To pull us in again.
